Brazil Adventure Holiday

the redeemer statue - Adventure Brazil Brazil is a country of lovely people, great tropical climate, bright colors, impenetrable forests, towering mountains peaks, religious shrines and wonderful sandy beaches.

A tour of Brazil without a chance to hike the country’s mountains and forests and soak up the sun on its expansive sandy beaches is simply incomplete. The International Volunteer Travel Brazil holiday adventure is a one to two-week program geared towards providing our overseas volunteers and interns with a chance to relax and tour Brazil as they pursue their volunteering goals.

Combining Adventure with Volunteer/Internships
Beyond the two weeks program, international volunteers and interns can go on to extend their volunteer or internship placement in Brazil or they can combine the Brazil Adventure Holiday with the Survival Portuguese Program for an extra week of stay in Brazil.

A Typical two-weeks schedule of the Brazil Adventure Holiday program looks as follows:

Jaguar - About Brazil Day 1: Arrival and pick up from the International Airport, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and transfer to residence hostel. Registration and rest.
Day 2: Orientation lecture: Covering topics including Brazilian culture, history, customs, politics, geography, and necessary health precautions, and the diversity of Brazilian life. Afternoon is free for exploring Brazilian life and get to know the community
Day 3-8: Voluntary Service: Volunteer in Brazil with children or youths. Teach kids English, acrobatics, dance, music or life skills.
Day 9: End volunteering or internship work. Farewell to the project and evaluation of the program.
Day 10-13: Four day Brazil Adventure Tours
Day 10: Tijuca Peak and Santa Teresa
Morning: Visit Tijuca Park the largest urban forest on earth. Tour its best viewpoints and waterfalls and hike up Tijuca Peak (Rio’s highest at 3300 ft). Enjoy the site of lush tropical forest and dramatic granite rocks.
Afternoon: Visit the charming district of Santa Teresa, with its cobblestone hilly streets, old homes, interesting museums and Rio’s last surviving tram line. If time allows, drive up to Corcovado to see the most famous of all images of Rio, the Brazil statue of Christ the Redeemer, located inside the Tijuca Park.

Day 11: Pedra Bonita and Grumari Beach
This tour takes you up Pedra Bonita, Rio’s hang gliding ramp. A short hike takes you up to the summit and back. By noon you will reach Grumari, Rio’s most isolated and unspoiled beach, an Environmental Protection Area. After swimming, sunbathing and lunch, the group can choose to visit either the Casa do Pontal Museum, Brazil’s largest folk-art collection, or the Burle Marx Estate, a museum about the famous landscape designer.

Day 12: Serra dos Órgãos
The Serra dos Órgãos mountain range was named after its resemblance to the organ pipes brought from Europe for the churches built in the colonial times. Take a light hike through the breathtaking Atlantic Rainforest to the big natural pool in the Soberbo River for a refreshing plunge or swim. Visit the Park Headquarters; the Von Martius Natural History Museum and the old chapel built in 1713.
Day 13: Petrópolis
This cooling Brazilian mountain resort sits at an altitude of 900m (2750ft), 66 km north of Rio. Take a half to full day tour of Petrópolis, the "Imperial City", so called because of its popularity with the Brazilian imperial family during the 19th century. Enjoying breathtaking views of the whole mountain range, and visit the town’s

main historic sites such as the Imperial Museum, the Santos Dumont House and the Crystal Palace. Brazil Adventure Holiday Program evaluation in the afternoon.
Day 14: End of Brazil Adventure Program. Departure for those staying for 2 weeks. Those staying longer return to continue with Brazil internship or volunteer project placement.

Brazil Adventure Holiday Program Highlights

Accommodation and Meals: Accommodation provided in a special guesthouse, or in a youth hostel incase of overflow. Meals are not provided during project placement. You can do your own catering with facilities available in the house, or eat at the restaurants. Restaurant food prices are about USD $3.00 for a good meal. Only lunch is provided during the Brazil Adventure Holiday tours.

Transportation:
Transport during the Brazil Adventure Holiday tours is provided. Routine transport to the Brazil volunteer projects is not provided. Local transport costs about USD 1.00 for a return trip to the project placement.

Portuguese Language Requirements
No language is required if you are signing up for 3 weeks or less under the adventure program. Otherwise the one-week Survival Portuguese Program is required if you have no working knowledge of Portuguese, Spanish or Italian and are signing up for a longer period. You can take the program in the morning and volunteer/intern in the afternoon.
