To enhance the experience of interns abroad and volunteer overseas in Nepal, the International Volunteer Travel offers a special one-week program, called the Nepal Language and Culture program.
The Nepal Language and Culture Program is geared towards helping overseas volunteers and interns abroad in Nepal develop basic Nepali for everyday travel situations plus gain exposure to the Nepalese culture.
Prepare to experience rural life of Nepal, a unique experience of a
lifetime. Embraced and welcomed by your host family, you will learn
Nepali as you work on the farm, cook Nepalese food, hike in beautiful
villages, join local artists and participate in local singing and
dancing, experience the peace and quiet of Nepalese life.
A sample schedule of the Language and Culture program is as follows:

Day 3: Tour of Kathmandu: International volunteers and overseas interns spend the entire day visiting the Kathmandu valley, the larger part of Kathmandu city. Visits will include the Kathmandu Bazaar; religious sites; plus historical and cultural sites some of which appear in the World Heritage Sites list. Day 4: Nepal Countryside: Take a bus ride transfer to Nepal’s countryside. Evening: See a cultural dance performance by a local Women’s group. Participate in the dance and see how easily you can catch the rhythm, have lots of fun. Day 5: Morning: Nepali language classes; 2-3 hours. Afternoon: Spend the time interacting with local people; test your chef skills cooking local foods or join the family at the farm and experience traditional farming like you have never seen before.
Day 6: Morning: Nepalese language classes, 2-3 hours. Afternoon: Hike
through the Nepalese countryside, Enjoying spectacular views of
forests, jungles, mountains and magnificent landscapes, along the
hiking trail. Day 7: Travel back to Kathmandu. Evaluation of the Program. Day 8: Start volunteer Nepal or internship in Nepal placement. |
Nepal Language Culture Program Highlights
Age Limit: 18 and over; Under 18 years only as outlined on Gap Year Abroad in Nepal and Group Volunteer Abroad pages.
Length of Program: 2 to 14 weeks.
Starting Dates:1st and 3rd Thursday of every Month
Airport Arrival: By 3:00 PM the previous day.
Accommodation and Meals: Accommodation provided in special selected Host families. 3 local Nepalese meals are provided per day including free self-packed lunch.
Transportation: Projects mostly walking distance from home. Alternatively take commuter bus; fare will normally be no more than USD 1.00 per day for a return trip to and from project.
Schedule: Mondays to Fridays. 3 to 8 hours daily.

Day 1: Arrival and pickup from the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, Nepal. Transfer to host family home, and rest.
