Many
Brazilian communities especially the poor are in dire need of social
and community development support in areas such as social and community
research community development. Volunteers abroad in Brazil can choose
between social research or community development work.
Social Research Duties: In collaboration with faculty of the University of Brazil
volunteers
abroad will collect, compile and analyze community views and document
social research findings. They help identify specific community
problems and work in partnership with national and international
organizations to propose solutions to these problems.
Community Development Duties:
Voluntary work entails assisting Brazilian development efforts in
several ways, including: social/community problem diagnosis, devising
and creating a network of community solutions, collective planning,

Community Work Program Highlights
Age Limit:
18 and over.
Length of Program:
2 to 24 weeks.
Arrival Dates:
2nd and 4th Tuesday
of every Month
Airport Arrival Time: Preferably by 4:00 PM
Accommodation and Meals: Accommodation provided in a special volunteers house, or in a youth hostel incase of overflow. Meals are not provided. International volunteers can do self-catering with facilities available in the house, or eat at the restaurants. Restaurant food prices are about USD $3.00 for a good meal.
Transportation:
Routine transport
to work is not provided. Local transport costs about
USD 1.00 for a return trip to and from project.
Schedule:
Mondays to Fridays.
2 to 5 hours daily (10 to 25 hours weekly)

Portuguese Language Requirements
One week Survival Portuguese Program required
if you have no working knowledge of Portuguese, Spanish or Italian
and are staying for more than 3 weeks; otherwise language requirement
is waived. You can take the program in the morning and volunteer/intern
in the afternoon.
