Volunteer with Children in Ecuador
There are a number of projects dealing with children that one can volunteer with ranging from preschool to community youth support programs. Please read on for more information.
Option A: Volunteering with Children with Disabilities
International
Volunteer Travel partners with a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO)
that provides volunteer opportunities for individuals who want to work
with children with disabilities at a Pedagogic and Therapeutic Center
in Ecuador.
International volunteers in this South American program will assist local teachers and social workers with their daily activities at the center. Volunteer work abroad in this Latin American project includes, feeding, clothing and washing the children; organizing recreational activities for the Ecuadorian children, playing with them and giving them love and attention.
Spanish Language Requirements: Basic Spanish preferred but not required.
Overseas Volunteer Duration:1 week and above.
Schedule of work: Mondays to Fridays; 5 to 8 hours
Option B: Day Care Voluntary Service
This Ecuador day-care is a place where single mothers and parents leave their children during the day. Children will normally be 0 - 4 years old. International volunteers with this program will assist in feeding, playing with the children, teaching them how to walk and generally loving on these children of Ecuador.
Spanish Language Requirement: Basic to Intermediate Spanish required.
International Volunteer Duration: 1 month and above.
Schedule of work: Mondays to Fridays; 5 to 8 hours
Option C: Pre-School Volunteering
Overseas volunteers in the South American country of Ecuador can work
with children between the ages of 4 and 5 years old. Voluntary work
with the Ecuador Pre-School volunteer Program basically entails
teaching English as a second language (TESOL) and participating in
organized games with the children.
Spanish Language Requirement: Basic Spanish recommended but not required.
International Volunteer Duration: 1 week and above.
Schedule of work: Mondays to Fridays; 5 to 8 hours
Option D: Street Children Center Voluntary Work
This Ecuador children center is a haven for Ecuadorian street children under 13 years of age. Ecuador Children come here to take a shower, change clothes, have a warm meal and then learn how to read and write. International volunteers with this program will assist teaching, organize games and activities and playing with the children.
Spanish Language Requirement: Basic Spanish recommended but not required.
Overseas Volunteer Duration: 1 week and above.
Schedule of work: Mondays to Fridays; 5 to 8 hours
Option E: Childrens Community Outreach Program
The main objective of this Community Outreach project is to establish positive mentoring relationships with Ecuadorian children who are victims of neglect and abuse by encouraging them to return to school and also assisting them with other immediate social problems.
Voluntary work abroad in the community outreach program includes the preparation and organization of academic, artistic and social activities for the children. Volunteers should be willing to get down and dirty working outdoors with children.
Spanish Language Requirement: Conversational or intermediate Spanish required.
Overseas Volunteer Duration: 2 weeks and above.
Schedule of work: Mondays to Fridays; 4 to 8 hours
Option F: Arts and Drama Workshop Volunteering
The Arts and Drama Workshop provides neglected and abused Ecuador children the opportunity to express themselves through art and drama. The workshop also provides the Ecuadorian children with personal hygiene training through educational projects.
International volunteers in this Latin American program will assist in teaching and developing activities for the arts classes, hygiene educational projects and performing arts/theatre/drama.
Spanish Language Requirement: Basic Spanish required.
Minimum Volunteer Duration: 2 weeks.
Schedule of work: Mondays to Fridays; 5 to 8 hours.
Option G: Volunteer With Children Handcraft Workshop
International Volunteer Travel partners with a Non-Profit Organization in Ecuador that provides entrepreneurial or business skills to children in the community by making and marketing artifacts and handmade cards. The children are homeless orphans and some are from very poor backgrounds. Developing business skills is their only hope of supporting themselves and/or their families.
Overseas volunteers in the production workshop program will supervise, and assist the children in the production and marketing of handmade cards and artifacts.
Spanish Language Requirements:Basic Spanish required see the Ecuador Basic Spanish Program.
Minimum Volunteer Duration: 1 week
Schedule of work: Mondays to Fridays; 2 to 6 hours

Ecuador Program Highlights
Age Limit: 18 and over; Under 18 years only as outlined on Gap Year Abroad in Ecuador and Group Volunteer Abroad pages.
Length of Program: 1 week to 1 year.
Starting Dates: 2nd and 4th Wednesday of every Month
Airport Arrival: By 3.00 PM the day before starting date.
Accommodation and Meals: Local middle-income households; 3 Ecuadorian meals a day.
Transport: Most projects are within walking distance of home; otherwise cost will not exceed USD 0.5 per day buy local public buses or trolley.
Schedule of work: Mondays to Fridays; 4 to 8 hours per day.
Spanish Language Requirements: Basic Spanish recommended but not required.
