Kenya Internships Overseas

The International Volunteer Travel offers a diverse array of overseas internship placements in Kenya. You can intern in Kenya to polish your skills, for college study abroad credits, or for high school credits. We have internship abroad opportunities in many areas including: Teaching; working with children; Health Care; HIV and AIDS Awareness; Animal Health and Veterinary Care and wildlife protection.

Our internship programs are suitable for nurses, doctors, and other medical professionals, prospective majors, pre-program students, teachers, gap year students, and basically anyone with or without any prior training.

Internship work with Orphaned Children

The greatest cause of abandoned children on the streets in East Africa is poverty. As the HIV and AIDS pandemic takes its toll many kids have been left without parents to take care of them. Such neglected kids have often been taken by other families or by charitable persons and groups and put up in orphanages. Orphanage operators are often in great need of labor support to supplement their efforts.

Participants (Interns) at orphanages assist in preparing meals for the kids, washing clothes, doing the dishes and doing the many chores that running such a place entails.  In the evening, once the kids are back from school, participants could play with them plus assist them with their homework

Wildlife Internship in Kenya

The International Volunteer Travel offers you the opportunity to volunteer, study, or intern with wildlife research in the buffer zones of Kenya’s National parks. International volunteers, interns and independent study abroad students attached to this program can choose to work mainly with elephants or lions, or both animal species. This program is open to people aged 18-55, who love to work with wild animals, and real jungle experience in Africa. 

Research results of these projects will identify causes and trends of human/animal conflict in the area, document animal behavior and come up with suggestions on how better management and protection approaches. To read more about this project, click here.

Teaching Internships

Insufficiency in the number of teachers has continued to be a problem in Kenyan as in most developing countries Your contribution to teach English as a second language or other subjects will be highly appreciated and fulfilling to yourself.

Kenya teaching internship duties include; helping teachers in the class, reading, making materials, teaching English, Math, Science, arts and crafts, playing and leading activities and games, and helping kids with homework.

Internships with HIV and AIDS Project

In collaboration with the local community, the HIV and AIDS project seeks to foster awareness about HIV/AIDS by a series of free training programs for interested community members.

Project participants work in the community and neighboring schools, teaching students (at school) and community members (at their homes) about HIV/AIDS. Lessons taught are related to basic information about the disease, preventive measures, and how to take care of people living with AIDS. Participants should come prepared to learn and train others plus participate in community and school education.

Medical Work Internships

As an overseas medical intern, you will work with local staff in support of the health care efforts. Generally you will assist/support the doctor or clinician in the normal routine of medical work e.g. taking vital signs, dressing wounds, taking patients history, minor surgeries, counseling patients, providing assurance and moral support to patients’ family, disbursing minor drugs etc.  You will find our medical work opportunity enlightening and rewarding. 

As an intern, your level of exposure in terms of what you are allowed to do will depend on your prior experience and qualification, plus your demonstrated ability to perform allocated tasks.

Professional Requirements: All health care interns based in hospitals and other medical facilities need to submit a resume showing relevant skills and training and proof of training such as professional licence, student ID or other proof of occupation.

Animal Health/Veterinary Care Internship

The International Volunteer Travel animal internship abroad program in Kenya provides a unique opportunity for interns to work with farm animals abroad. The Africa animal internship placement abroad, is a chance to learn about animals; and veterinary medicine in general and specifically about care in rural Kenya.

This placement is open to anyone interested in working with farm and domestic animals, practicing and aspiring animal scientists, animal science and veterinary college students, etc.

Duties: Overseas interns with animals in Africa assist the resident veterinary surgeon in their many duties including handling animals and animal feeds, diagnosis and treatment of tropical animal diseases, filling and keeping animal records and handling medicines.  No prior experience is required. International interns should bring gloves, work boots and lab coats.

Combination of Programs

Our internships Abroad in Kenya can be taken independently or combined with other programs including volunteer placement in Kenya, Language and Cultural Experience, and the Kenya Adventure Tours and Holidays program.
