TestimonialsNepal HIV and AIDS Volunteer Program
Nepal, Volunteer Nepal, Kathmandu Nepal capital
In the words of Mieko Nishimizu, World Bank Vice President, South Asia Region,
“Nepal’s vulnerability to HIV/AIDS is fueled by poverty, gender
inequalities, low levels of education and literacy, denial, stigma, and
discrimination. Though the absolute number of HIV/AIDS cases is still
low, there are already "concentrated" epidemics within certain
high-risk behavior groups in Nepal. Immediate and vigorous action must
be taken now to prevent further spread of HIV among groups at high risk
and stop the infection from taking a foothold in the larger
population”.
In 2000, about 0.5% of the Nepal population was living with HIV/AIDS. Absence of effective interventions will escalate the probability of the majority of the general population contacting HIV within the next few years if current trends continue.
HIV and AIDS Volunteer Duties: To be part of the solution, International Volunteer Travel partners with a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in Nepal, to reduce the spread of HIV through voluntary educational and medical interventions. Volunteers working abroad with the HIV/AIDS Awareness program in Nepal will assist with Community Based education on HIV and AIDS and HIV AND AIDS care intervention programs including visiting with families that may be affected and encouraging them.
Nepalese Language Requirements
