To enhance the experience of interns Abroad and volunteer overseas in Peru, the International Volunteer Travel offers a special one week program, called the Peru Survival Spanish and Culture program.
The Survival
Spanish and Culture Program provides 4 days of Survival
Spanish lessons with tours of the city of Lima and its
environs in the afternoon.
The Peru Survival Spanish and Culture Program is geared towards helping overseas volunteers and interns abroad in Peru develop basic Spanish for everyday travel situations plus gain exposure to the Peruvian culture. The program combines Spanish language classes with tours of the city of Lima, Peru, to give the international volunteer or intern a well-rounded experience of the Latin American culture. The program also helps overseas volunteers and interns abroad find their way around Lima, Peru during their project placement phase.
A typical schedule of the Survival Spanish and Culture Program in Peru is as follows:
Day 1:
Arrival and pickup from the Jorge Chavez
International Airport, in Lima, Peru.
Transfer to host family home, and rest.
Day 2: Morning: Registration,
orientation; introduction to
program staff. Lecture covering
topics including Brazilian
culture, history, customs,
dos and don’ts and necessary
health and safety precautions;
Discussion on the volunteer
projects and your expectations.
Afternoon Tours: Visit downtown
Lima. We will show
you the Historical Centre:
Main Square (Plaza Mayor).
Today this square house the
Government Palace, the City
Hall, the Cathedral and the
Archbishop’s Palace, this buildings
are of great architectural
richness.
Day 3: Morning: Peru
Survival Spanish classes
begin – 2 hours per day.
Classes cover useful language
for conversation at restaurant,
bank, tourist office, supermarket,
post office, airport, etc.
Afternoon Tours: Visit Parque
de las leyendas (Park of the
Legends, Zoo), one
of the most important zoos
of Lima. You can see many animals
from all over the world, as
well as species of the three
regions of the Peru.
Day 4: Morning: Peru
Survival Spanish classes
continue.
Afternoon Tours: visit
the Convent and Church
of San Francisco,
the greatest monumental assembly
of colonial art in America.
The monks’ Choir and Library;
the Vestry, with paintings
by Zurbaran and Rivera; Main
Cloister decorated with Sevillian
tiles from the 16th century;
Moorish arches, and The Catacombs,
underground crypts from the
colonial times.
Day 5: Morning: 2-3
hours of Peru
Survival Spanish classes.
Program evaluation.
Afternoon Tours: Tour
the Huaca Pucllana archaeological
centre. An administrative complex
of Lima culture, that represents
all the legacy of the society
that developed in the central
coast of Peru, between 200
and 700 years AD. Also, visit
San Cristobal hill one of the
attractions of the city of
Lima from where you can view
the whole city.
Day 6: Sunday, Free.
Day 7: Morning: Peru
Survival Spanish final
day and Evaluation. Afternoon
is free day. End of program,
continue with volunteer placement
from the next day on.
Applicants Please Note:
The Peru Survival Spanish and Culture Program is not offered alone. Only applicants who sign up for one other program such as the Peru Volunteer Abroad, Peru internship Abroad, or the Peru Adventure Holidays programs, can participate in the Survival Spanish and Culture Program. This program takes one separate week.
Free Basic Spanish Classes: Those interested in taking Spanish classes without the tours, we offer at most the first 2 weeks or 2 hour per day (weekdays only) of free Spanish classes. You need to register before arrival in Peru to access the free classes. Classes are offered either in the mornings with volunteer work in the afternoon or in the afternoons with project placement in the morning.

Accommodation and Meals: Accommodation provided in special selected Host families. 3 local Peruvian meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) are provided per day. You are allowed to pack your lunch from home for free.

value per week.
Basic Spanish:
Free lessons, 2
hours per day, for one week.
Transportation:
Routine transport
to work is not provided. Local transport costs
up to about USD 2.00 for a daily return trip to
and from project.
Schedule:
Mondays to Fridays.
3 to 8 hours daily.

Most projects within 5 to 20 minutes walking
distance from home. Projects further off can be reached by walking
or by local bus at your expense and cost up to about USD
2.00 for a daily return trip to and from project. See specific
