The
International Volunteer Travel Tanzania Beach Holiday Program combines
international volunteer and internship placement with exciting 6-day
beach experience and tours of Tanzania’s largest city of Dar es Salaam, plus
the Islands of Zanzibar and
Pemba. International volunteers and overseas interns will have time to
simply relax at the beach, swim, snorkel and tour these East African
cities.
A sample schedule of our International Volunteer Travel Tanzania Beach Holiday Program is provided below:
Day 1: Arrival and pick up from the Arusha, Kilimanjaro, International Airport, in Arusha, Tanzania and transfer to host family home.

Day 2: Morning: registration and start of orientation. About 2-hour discussion covering topics including orientation to the program, Tanzania culture, history, customs, politics, do’s and don’ts. Afternoon is free for exploring rural Tanzania and getting to know your host family.Day 3: Intentional volunteers and interns abroad leave for project early in the morning after breakfast. Introductions held with project staff, and the host family.Day 3-6: Voluntary service abroad at an orphanage. Volunteers and interns are free to explore the surrounding areas in their free time.Day 7-12: Dar es Salaam –Pemba-Zanzibar Beach Holiday TripDay 7: Travel to Dar es Salaam International volunteers and interns travel to and from Dar es Salaam will be by bus, leaving Arusha in the morning and arriving in Dar late afternoon. Dinner and overnight at hotel.
Day 8: Tour of Dar es Salaam City. After breakfast international volunteers and interns abroad in Tanzania proceed on a full day city tour of Dar es Salaam city including wonderful beaches and famous places including the national museum, Statehouse, Bismarck and Askari monuments, Uhuru torch, Dar Railway Station, Republic fountain, village Museum and Nyerere cultural center. Breakfast, dinner and overnight at your hotel.Day 9: Zanzibar Stone Town Tour: Early after breakfast international volunteers and interns abroad in Tanzania start out on a two hour ferry or boat ride to the Island of Zanzibar.Guided tour of the city of Zanzibar featuring the old town of Zanzibar, fondly known as Stone Town. The tour is covered mainly on foot, providing the guests the opportunity to stroll through the narrow winding labyrinth alleys and behold uniquely carved Arab doors with brass studs, carved balconies; the House of Wonders; the Palace Museum (People’s Palace); Dr Livingstone’s House; cathedrals and countless mosques; and Zanzibar’s bustling market. Stone Town has excellent gifts shops with plenty of souvenirs handicrafts and splendid artifacts to choose from. Dinner and overnight at hotel.
Day 10: Pemba Island Misali Tour: Take a boat ride to Misali the famous islet in the South west of Pemba Island, Tanzania. International volunteers and overseas interns in Pemba can swim in the calm and quiet snorkeling waters, sunbathing on expansive white sandy beaches, or simply enjoy viewing dolphins as they swim and play at sea. Zanzibar Adventure volunteers and interns will also take a tour of and marvel at the historical Pemba ruins and visit the biggest tomb and Mosque in the area. Dinner and overnight at hotel.
Day 11: Dar es Salaam: Free, Beach Relaxation. Leave Zanzibar early morning for Dar es Salaam by boat or ferry. The entire day is free for international volunteers and interns abroad in Tanzania to do what they like best. Simply relax, and enjoy the beach at the hotel, swim in the blue waters of Indian Ocean, or take a private excursion for wind surfing, scuba diving, water skiing, snorkeling, deep-sea fishing or goggling. Breakfast, dinner and overnight at your hotel.Day 12: Dar es Salaam - Moshi: After breakfast, international volunteers and interns abroad in Tanzania travel to Arusha by bus.
Day 13: Break, free day. Program Evaluation.Day 14: End of Adventure Program. Departure for those staying for 2 weeks. Those staying longer proceed to their volunteer abroad project placement. |
This schedule is subject to change by the country coordinator to fit into local circumstances. Beach Tour accommodation is shared in standard economy hotel rooms or makuti (palm tree leaf) roofed beach cottages. Community room will normally have satellite television, telephone, mini-bar and restaurant. Some hotels will have diving school and tennis courts. If you wish to tour the Bagamoyo slave trade museum, a gate fee of USD 35 is required, all other gate fees are paid for. Breakfast and lunch are provided throughout the trip. Lunch will be on you.
