The Tanzania Explorer Adventure ? Moshi Program (T204)

The International Volunteer Travel Tanzania Explorer Program in Moshi combines the one week Language and Culture Experience with the Moshi Rift Valley Adventure Program. International Volunteers begin with the language and cultural experience week, proceed to participate in volunteering abroad or internship overseas placement, before proceeding to the 3 day wilderness safaris in The jungle safari expedition features world famous Lake Manyara, Olduvai and Serengeti National Parks in the Great Rift Valley.

A sample schedule of our International Volunteer Travel Moshi Explorer Adventure program is provided below:

Day 1:

Arrival and pick up from the Kilimanjaro International Airport, in Arusha, Tanzania and transfer to host household home; in-country registration.

Day 2:

Orientation. About 2-hour discussion covering topics including orientation to the program, Tanzania culture, history, customs, politics, do?s and don?ts.

Afternoon: Tour the city of Moshi including curio market and main facilities.

Day 3:

Morning - Swahili Language classes for 2 hours.

Late morning, tour the Maasai Cultural Museum; experience the traditional and cultural settings of the Maasai, East Africa?s most celebrated indigenous community.

Day 4:

Saturday, Spend the entire day on a guided tour of downtown Arusha, including the United nations Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (UNICTR), and the East African Parliament buildings; famous Tengeru market and the local curio market where interns abroad and international volunteers can buy curios and interact with local people.

Day 5:

Sunday: Free. Volunteers abroad and overseas interns can join the family at their weekend activities or explore Tanzania life on their own with the advice of the coordinator and host family.

Day 6:

Swahili Language classes (2 hours). Late morning overseas volunteers and international interns tour will drive to Lake Duluti a small crater lake east of Arusha along the Moshi Road. Walk along the nature trail around Lake Duluti and enjoy the site and feel of the serene surrounding. See if you can spot the over 130 different bird species that call this park home including kingfishers, osprey, buzzards, eagles, doves, storks and babets. Go on a canoe ride on this beautiful East African Rift Valley Crater Lake, and if you have the tools, take time to do some fishing.

Day 7:

Morning: End of Swahili Language classes for 2-3 hours. Afternoon, program evaluation and free time.

Day 8-9:

Volunteer work: Overseas volunteers and interns work in a local orphanage. Interns? abroad and overseas volunteers are free to explore the surrounding areas in their free time.

Day 9:

End international volunteer work and language and culture experience. Evaluation of the program.

Day 10-12:

Tanzania Rift Valley Wilderness Safari: (3 Days)

In Tanzania?s greatest Rift Valley wilderness parks adventurous volunteers and overseas interns will encounter over 450 bird species, and numerous species of animals including gazelles; impala; buffalo; wildebeest; the famous tree climbing lion; hyena; baboon; giraffe; hippopotamus, lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos, zebras, thousands of wildebeests, etc.

Day 10:

Lake Manyara: After about 9 days of work, its time to have fun - overseas volunteers and Africa interns on this program leave Moshi, early morning and proceed to Lake Manyara National Park for game drive. Picnic lunch en-route, dinner and overnight at Campsite.

Day 11:

Olduvai Gorge/Ngorongoro Crater: Depart Lake Manyara for a half day game drive in the Ngorongoro Crater. Descend 2,000 feet into the crater floor ? the world?s largest caldera. This is the best place to see black rhino, lions, lots of colorful flamingoes and other water birds, the leopard, cheetah, hyena, antelopes. In the late afternoon drive back to campsite for lunch. In the late evening you may have the walking safaris at the coffee plantations, watching birds, waterfalls and returning back to campsite for dinner and overnight.

Day 12:

Tarangire-Moshi: Morning drive from Karatu to the Tarangire National Park. This park is spectacular in the dry season when many of the migratory wildlife species come back to the permanent waters of Tarangire River. Huge herds of wildebeest, zebras, elephants, elands and oryx gather to stay in Tarangire until the onset of the rain when they migrate again. In the late afternoon drive back to Moshi.

Day 13:

Break, free day. Program Evaluation.

<<>>Day 14:> End of Adventure Program. Departure for those staying for 2 weeks. Those staying longer proceed to their volunteer abroad project placement.

This schedule is subject to change by the country coordinator to fit into local circumstances. All our Africa safaris are camping safaris. Accommodation is in shared camp tents.
