The Zanzibar Island Adventure (Z204)
The
International Volunteer Travel Zanzibar Island adventure program
provides volunteers abroad and international interns with four
days of guided island and beach tours, plus about eight days
of voluntary community work in your field of choice on the African
Island of Zanzibar.
The adventure tours cover stone town, forest wetland ecosystems home to mangrove trees, various birds, and endangered animal species; spice farms and production factories; snorkeling and swimming; dolphin tours; boat riding and beach recreation among other activities.
A sample schedule of our International Volunteer Travel Tanzania Beach Holiday Program is provided below:
Day
1: Arrival and pick up from the Zanzibar International Airport (code
name ZNZ); transfer to host household
home or hotel for overnight. Day 2: Registration and Orientation. Registration to the program followed by bout 2-hour discussion covering topics including orientation to the program, Zanzibar culture, history, customs, politics, do?s and don?ts. Afternoon ? Guided tour of the city of Zanzibar Stone Town. The tour is covered mainly on foot, and as will as time allows feature strolling through the narrow winding labyrinth alleys; view houses with carved Arab doors and balconies; the House of Wonders; the Palace Museum; Dr Livingstone?s House; The Old Anglican cathedral; and Zanzibar?s bustling market. Stone Town has excellent gifts shops with plenty of souvenirs handicrafts and splendid artifacts to choose from. Day 3-9: Africa volunteer and internship placement work. Weekends are free to relax, soak in the sun, join the host family in their activities. Day 10 - 12: Zanzibar, Pemba Adventure Trips Day 10: Jozani Forest : Overseas volunteers and international interns will take a half day tour of this famous wetland forest, the only wetland remaining on Zanzibar island. The wetland is about 45 minutes drive from the city center. It is home to the only surviving members of the red Columbus monkey, an almost extinct species.
The local guide will show the international volunteers to colonies of the primates and guide them through the delightful swamp in the middle of the wetland and small streams flowing into the ocean and lots of birds of the the mangrove wetland ecosystem. Day 11: Dolphin Adventures, Swimming, Snorkeling: International volunteers and interns abroad will have a full day tour on locally constructed sailing dhows, fitted with outboard motors, marine VHF radios, life jackets and other security requirements. The trip explores Menai bay a conservation area inhabited by humpback and bottlenose dolphins. Overseas interns and volunteers abroad can take the opportunity to do snorkeling - gear is provided. Lunch is served on a sand bank or on one of the many uninhabited island in the region. A traditional dish of barbecued fish, rice, lentils and fish curry is served. After lunch overseas interns and volunteers abroad in the African city of Zanzibar can sail on an outrigger canoe carved out of a single mango tree, snorkel, swim or just relax. Interns and volunteers return to Fumba by sail, wind permitting, or by boat, then to the main island. Day 12: Misali, Pemba Tour: Misali
is the famous islet in the South west of Pemba,
Tanzania. Misali is best known for calm and quiet
snorkeling waters, expansive white sandy beaches
excellent for sunbathing, fishing and Dolphin
Recreation. International volunteers and overseas
interns in Pemba will have time to participate
in any of these activities. Zanzibar Adventure
volunteers and interns will also take a tour
of and marvel at the historical Pemba ruins and
visit the biggest tomb and Mosque in the area. Day 13: Zanzibar program evaluation
in the morning, Afternoon is Free - End of the
Zanzibar international adventure program. |
